San Joaquin Valley College is a private junior college that provides career-focused education and professional training in areas such as business, healthcare and technical specialties. The institution was founded in 1977 and has several campuses in California as well as distance-learning programs. About the Medical Assistant Program

Medical assistants are an integral part of the healthcare system and have a variety of roles and settings available in which to work. San Joaquin Valley College offers a medical assistant program with a clinical and administrative focus, and a program that concentrates on clinical medical assistant preparation.

Students in the college's clinical and administrative medical assistant program may earn an Associate of Science degree. The curriculum offers students the opportunity to learn about insurance billing, coding and administrative office procedures. Patient care courses are also offered including basic lab testing, venipuncture, and CPR. After completing this program, students may qualify to work in roles such as clinical medical assistant, records clerk, or medical secretary.

The clinical medical assistant program is available for a certificate of completion or an Associate of Science degree. The curriculum focuses on back-office skills and patient care in a variety of healthcare settings including doctors' offices, hospitals, clinical laboratories and insurance companies. Students in both programs may qualify for several professional certifications.
